Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in South Korea on Friday on a farewell trip set to conclude official interactions with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, his partner in achieving considerable rapprochement between the historically rival countries.
The two are scheduled to hold an afternoon summit, according to the Japanese government, before Kishida flies back to Tokyo on Saturday. It’s the prime minister’s second trip to South Korea to meet Yoon during his term. In May of last year, Kishida became the first sitting Japanese prime minister to participate in a bilateral summit in South Korea in 12 years.
