U.S. extends controls on China chip industry, adds 140 firms to entity list

The U.S. added 140 companies including Chinese semiconductor toolmaking and software firms to a trade restriction list on Monday in one of the biggest efforts to curtail Chinese advances in the high-tech sector.

The targets include Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. and Huawei-linked companies. China’s top chipmaking equipment firms, including Beijing Naura, ACM Research and Piotech, also were added to the list.
