Japan-India 2+2, Thai GDP, Vietnam leader in China

Vietnam’s new Communist Party chief To Lam visits China this week, while Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim is off to India for his first official visit since becoming prime minister. The Japanese foreign and defense ministers also meet with their counterparts in India this week.

Thailand reports quarterly GDP figures on Monday and holds a monetary policy meeting on Wednesday. Chinese automaker Geely reports its latest earnings along with tech giant Baidu.

Japan-India 2+2

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Minister of Defense Kihara Minoru hold talks with their Indian counterparts S. Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh. The agenda will include “strengthening a free and open international order” and boosting economic ties.

Malaysia’s Anwar heads to India

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim makes his maiden visit to India to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two met for the first time several years ago, but this will be Anwar’s first with Modi as prime minister. Malaysia and India are expected to sign several agreements to bolster trade ties.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the Ketagalan security forum — the first edition since President Lai Ching-te took office in May. Scheduled speakers include Japan’s former Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, now an opposition lawmaker, and former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
