Japan will expand its provision of drones to like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific from fiscal 2025 as it promotes dual-use civilian and military technologies to foster domestic industries as an alternative to dominant Chinese products.
Tokyo will use its Official Security Assistance framework, designed to provide defense equipment and other items to ideologically aligned countries for free. Established in fiscal 2023, OSA only provides assistance in areas unlikely to be connected with international conflicts.
