The unexpected results of the Philippine midterm elections, in which incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. lost support to his main foes — the family of Vice President Sara Duterte — as well as to unaffiliated liberals, has left the nation’s politics even more uncertain than before.
Analysts said the immediate battle, Duterte’s looming impeachment trial in the Senate that will determine her political fate, has become too hard to call.
