Trump open to selling allies ‘toned-down’ version of next-gen F-47 fighter

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday revealed plans to build a next-generation fighter, dubbed the F-47, and said allies may be able to purchase a less capable version.

“I’m thrilled to announce that, at my direction, the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Air Force leaders standing by his side.

President Donald Trump has expressed openness to the idea of selling U.S. allies a “toned-down” version of the next-generation F-47 fighter jet, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The move could expand the global reach of American military technology while addressing concerns over preserving critical defense capabilities.

The F-47, hailed as a cutting-edge advancement in air combat, boasts superior stealth, advanced weapons systems, and unparalleled maneuverability. However, the export version would reportedly feature reduced capabilities to ensure sensitive technologies remain exclusive to the U.S. military.

Trump’s willingness to explore such sales reflects his administration’s approach to bolstering defense ties with allied nations while maintaining a competitive edge. Defense analysts suggest that the decision could benefit both American defense contractors and allied nations seeking to upgrade their air forces.

This development is likely to spark debate over the balance between national security and international defense collaboration, particularly as global tensions continue to shape military priorities.
