Bomb or bandwagon? US foreign policy scholars debate Japan’s future

Foreign policy heavyweights were divided Tuesday at a panel discussion at Georgetown University on how U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies will impact American allies like Japan over the long term.

“I think what you’re likely to see is an independent, nuclear-armed Japan — and multiply that times 15 or 20 other countries around the world,” said Brookings Institution senior fellow Robert Kagan, an influential neoconservative.
